SPORTEUROPE.TV Extends Deal Early: IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Secured Long-Term Through 2031
Exclusive media rights starting in 2029, expanded rights territory starting in 2027: SPORTEUROPE.TV continues to strengthen its position as the European home of ice hockey
Munich, September 8, 2026 – SPORTEUROPE.TV is sending a clear signal in support of top-tier international ice hockey: The digital sports platform has extended its media rights to the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship™ ahead of schedule, beyond the year 2028. The new agreement secures exclusive media rights for SPORTEUROPE.TV for the years 2029 through 2031, thereby creating long-term prospects for fans, media partners, and cross-platform coverage in Europe.
“Hockey thrives on emotion, intimacy, and unforgettable moments—and those are exactly the moments we want to bring to the fans,” says Björn Beinhauer, CEO of SPORTEUROPE.TV. “With this early extension, we are demonstrating our long-term commitment to top-level international ice hockey. SPORTEUROPE.TV is thus continuing to evolve into the Home of Ice Hockey and ranks among the largest European rights holders in the sport. This sends a strong signal to our viewers, partners, and the entire market.”
Jens Mennigmann, Co-Head of Media at Infront, says: “SPORTEUROPE.TV has impressively demonstrated how the visibility of international ice hockey in Europe can be sustainably enhanced. Extending the partnership through 2031 lays the foundation for a long-term increase in the reach of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, and with the expansion of the partnership to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg starting in 2027, the tournament will reach even more fans across Europe in the future.”
Exclusive Media Rights Through 2031
Starting with the new rights period in 2029, SPORTEUROPE.TV will hold the exclusive media rights to the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship through 2031. The agreement thus establishes a long-term foundation early on for coverage of the World Championship on SPORTEUROPE.TV.
Through 2028, the existing rights and the proven distribution model will remain unchanged. With the subsequent exclusive rights period from 2029 through 2031, SPORTEUROPE.TV is also ensuring long-term planning certainty for the continued media exploitation of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.
Seven European Markets Starting in 2027
Alongside the long-term extension, SPORTEUROPE.TV’s rights territory is also expanding. Starting in 2027, the markets of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg will be added to Germany, Austria, France, and Italy.
The additional markets will initially be part of the existing rights period and will subsequently be incorporated into the agreement for the years 2029 through 2031. As a result, the rights territory will encompass seven European markets in the future, strengthening SPORTEUROPE.TV’s European presence in international ice hockey.
